Recognize the Causes of Bile Bladder Polyps and How to Treat them

Gallbladder polyps are the growth of small protruding tissue in the inner lining of the gallbladder. Although in most cases, gallbladder polyps are benign (non-cancerous), but this does not rule out the growth of malignant polyps (cancer). Gallbladder polyps can be found accidentally during an examination for an illness or other health condition. The size of the polyp found will determine its handling and possible growth characteristics.

Recognize the Causes of Bile Bladder Polyps

The cause of the emergence of gall bladder polyps is not known with certainty, but there are various factors that can increase the risk of these polyps forming, namely:
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Congenital polyposis syndrome
  • Chronic hepatitis B
Although gallbladder polyps generally show no specific symptoms, some patients may experience complaints of nausea, vomiting, and pain in the upper right abdomen (hypochondrium).

How to Treat Gall Bladder Polyps

Treatment of gall bladder polyps will be adjusted according to size. When polyps are found in the patient's gallbladder, the doctor will ask questions about the patient's complaints and medical history, and conduct a complete physical examination. After that, the doctor will do an ultrasound examination to determine the location and size of the polyps, as well as a CT scan to distinguish cholesterol polyps from adenomas or adenocarcinomas. If the gallbladder polyps are small and have a diameter of less than 1 cm, there is usually no need for special treatment. However, doctors will schedule routine ultrasound to monitor the growth of polyps. However, if the detected polyp has a diameter larger than 1 cm, the doctor will recommend a surgical removal of the gallbladder, or what is known as cholecystectomy. The following natural methods are also believed to help prevent and treat gallbladder polyps:
  • Avoid the consumption of fried foods, fatty, and high cholesterol.
  • Avoid consumption of carbonated drinks,
  • Increase consumption of fruits, vegetables, foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, ginger, and turmeric.
In addition, eating apple juice or olive oil on an empty stomach is also believed to be able to overcome gallbladder polyps. However, there are no studies that confirm its effectiveness. Although gall bladder polyps are rare and are generally found accidentally, you need to be aware of this condition. If you have the above risk factors, you should consult a doctor so you can be screened and treated if necessary.
